Inka Ritual Massage in Cusco

More than a massage, an Andean ceremony: a cleansing with rosemary and Palo Santo, an offering to Pachamama and the Apus, the teaching of the Chakana and a deep massage with warm volcanic stones — two hours to realign body, mind and spirit.

This is our signature experience and the heart of Mama Pacha. The Inka ritual massage in Cusco is not a regular massage: it is a two-hour Andean ceremony that begins with a cleansing of rosemary, aromatic herbs and Palo Santo, continues with an offering to Pachamama and the Apus and the teaching of the Chakana, and ends with a deep massage with warm volcanic stones.

Inka ritual massage in Cusco — Mama Pacha

A ceremony, not just a massage: the Inka ritual massage in Cusco

In the Andean worldview, Pachamama is the living earth that sustains us and the Apus are the sacred mountains that protect Cusco. Our therapist works with the same elements used in traditional ceremonies — rosemary, Palo Santo, sea salt, coca leaves, Andean corn and warm volcanic stones — and uses the Chakana, the Andean cross, as a map to bring body, mind and spirit back into balance. Two unhurried hours give the body time to truly let go.

Benefits

  • A traditional Andean limpia to release heavy energy
  • Deep muscular release with warm volcanic stones
  • An authentic offering to Pachamama and the Apus
  • A personal teaching of the Chakana and its meaning
  • Two hours of unhurried, personalized attention

What to expect in your session

Arrive a few minutes early to settle in. Your therapist will explain every step of the ceremony before it begins, guide you through each stage and adapt the pressure and the heat of the stones to you. Plan a calm evening afterwards to keep the benefits.

The 4 stages of the ceremony

  1. Andean cleansing (limpia)

We begin with a traditional limpia: rosemary and other aromatic Andean herbs, the smoke of Palo Santo and sea salt purify your body and your energy before the ceremony.

  2. Call to Pachamama and the Apus

With a k’intu — an offering of coca leaves — and Andean corn, we call on Mother Earth and the Apus, the sacred mountains that protect Cusco, asking permission and blessing for your healing.

  3. The teaching of the Chakana

Your therapist explains the Chakana, the Andean cross, and what it means for the balance of body, mind and spirit. Together you set an intention: what you want to release and what you want to receive.

  4. Ritual massage with hot stones

Guided by the Chakana, the massage travels the whole body with warm volcanic stones and deep, unhurried ancestral touch to release tension and restore your vital energy.

What we use in this ritual

  • Rosemary and Andean aromatic herbs
  • Palo Santo
  • Warm volcanic stones
  • Sea salt
  • Coca leaves (k'intu)
  • Andean corn

The Chakana: the Andean cross that guides the ritual

The Chakana, or Andean cross, is one of the most important symbols of the Andean worldview. Its Quechua name is often translated as “bridge” or “ladder”: a link between the worlds. Its four arms point to the four directions, its twelve corners are related to the cycles of the year, and the circle at its center is associated with Cusco, the navel of the world.

The three worlds

  • Hanan Pacha — The upper world of the spirit, represented by the condor.
  • Kay Pacha — This world, the here and now of the body, represented by the puma.
  • Uku Pacha — The inner world, of roots and ancestors, represented by the serpent.

Its three principles

  • Munayto love
  • Yachayto know
  • Llankayto work

In the ritual, the Chakana becomes a map: we cleanse and release what weighs on you, reconnect the body with the earth and the spirit, and let the massage bring all three worlds back into balance.
